Full bookshop schedule for Lands End to John o’Groats, beginning 12th May

Here it is folks, the full schedule for my Lands End to John o Groats walk.

I know exactly where I’m going to be every single day between the 12th May and 8th October, five full months of geographical precision; an organisational feat that I’ve never accomplished before!

Strap in, this is going to be a long and complex post, but I’ll do my best to be clear about it!

There are two different types of bookshop appearances planned:

EVENTS which will be a full talk from me, telling the story about the walk across Europe and giving readings from the book. (Usually ticketed but that is the choice of the bookshop and not something I can affect). There might be refreshments, there will be a talk, questions and a book signing. For ticket details, contact the bookshop.

POP-UP signing: something much more informal, just me turning up to the bookshop and signing a few copies for them to sell as ‘signed by the author’. I’ll usually stay about an hour and be happy to sign books for anyone who turns up but the date probably won’t be locally advertised and will be much more low key. Usually in the last hour before closing (so usually 4pm)

BOOK GROUPS AND OTHER SELF-ORGANISED EVENTS

If you can see that I’m in your area and would like to organise a small event for me to read to your book group or friends, a la Simon Armitage, please do get in touch. I’m open to dates in between the advertised ones above, and if I have no bookshop event as I pass through your town and you’d like to organise something, let’s do it!

WALKERS AND RAMBLERS

You are all welcome to join me any time, just get in touch.

Please use the contact form on this website or message me through social media.

My walking route is made using Slow Ways, a walking network created to make it easier to walk between towns. It made creating this huge challenge much easier; and making a route that walks between bookshops rather than taking the rural long distance paths that always seek the less inhabited places needed Slow Ways to facilitate the route planning.

Halfway between hobo and hero

I took a lazy day on the day I entered Carmarthen. I'd walked hard the previous day, nervous of arriving at a bookshop appearance with low energy and the full sweat of a hard days walk dripping from my breathless red face. I'd picked a likely copse on the map, which...

It's only been three weeks since I set out on this latest challenge - to walk a book tour 1700 miles through Britain - but I feel like I've come through a full three months of experiences. The nerves of that first day had me completely frenzied; where not only did I...

Kit List – what I carry and why

I've always shied away from writing kit lists, mainly because I feel strange about giving recommendations when I'm not sure that what I'm using is the best out there. I wouldn't call myself much of a gear enthusiast (although now I'm editing this blog, I've realised I...

Food abundance, food scarcity

I left Kalinovik with a rucksack bulging with food. Unfortunately though, it wasn't the right kind of food, nor was it enough for the six day journey that lay ahead.  I'd been spoilt in Kalinovik by a friendly couple, customers of the shabby bar that kept rooms...
